It’s Wells Carnival Week….

beach hutsThere is lots going on next week in Wells next week.  Their Carnival has been running for over 50 years and this year looks like there are events for all the family.

Live Music Events – There are 6 evenings of live music at different venues around the town providing a wide range of music to appeal to people of all ages and tastes and in the past have included a Wild West evening, a Beach Party, Classical Music and various Tribute Groups

Food & Craft Day –held on the Buttlands and is a summer fair packed with stalls offering food from around the world and closer to home, plus crafts and entertainment.

Childrens Fantastic Fun Day  To take place on the Beach Road Playing Field on the Wednesday – organised and run by the Friends of the Beach Road Playing Field

Sandcastle & Sand Sculpture Competition – Taking place on Wells Beach, this event is very much dependant on the tides and is open to all ages.

Teddy Bears Picnic – For the under 6’s – bring a picnic, a teddy or a special toy and a grown-up and follow the trail through the woods to the clearing. Set out your picnic and enjoy the entertainment.

Gillying Competition – Taking place by the Harbour Office, use your skills with a crab line and bait to see how many gillys (crabs) you can catch in a given time.

Carnival Day & Evening – The 2nd Saturday of Carnival week brings Carnival Day itself. The event takes place on the Buttlands and includes stalls, entertainment, fancy dress competitions along with the famous Carnival Parade around the town. There is then live musical entertainment in the evening bringing the day to a close.
